Hi I've just found gmusicbrowser after trying a lot of the other music players and I must say I'm very impressed with it. The only thing I can not seem to do is to get the browser working so that it shows album covers. It has not automatically downloaded covers (assuming it does this), and manual searches through google images do not return any hits. Am I missing something----please help.

Album covers are not automatically downloaded, but pictures files in the songs folders are used if found (not reimplemented in development version 1.1.x yet).
What you are missing is maybe configuring the browser to show the found covers, by right-clicking on the album list (it will be the default in the future), or by adding the cover column in the song list (right-click on column headers) (You can also use the "with SongTree" browser layout which can display album covers in prettier ways)

OK this works if I set the picture myself. Thank you.

I ran gmb through the terminal but there was no output at all when I tried to do a google search through the browser.

Strange, are you sure you are using the picture-finding plugin ? Have you tried searching with something else than google image ?
You can also run gmusicbrowser with the -debug option, be warned that it prints a lot of things on the terminal.

Yes I checked the plugin and it is installed. In debug mode, the output for the cover search is"

Quotefetchcover : loading http://images.google.com/images?q=%22Ugetsu%22%20%22Art%20Blakey%22&imgsz=medium|large
cached result

Sloth radio searches work (funny but last time I looked, prior to starting this thread, I did not notice it to be there). Unfortunately their database seems a little small so a lot of my newer albums do not get any hits.

There is also an option to do searches through freecovers.net, but it does not work; "connection failed".

I forgot to mention earlier that when I attempt a google search through the browser, the response is "no matches found, you might want to remove some search items".

Hi Quentin,

i just experienced the same stories recently: I hardly ever find a cover and only Slothradio seems to work  :(

When using Freecovers i get the following terminal output:
fetchcover : loading http://www.freecovers.net/api/search/%22wildhoney%22%20%22Tiamat%22
simple_http : fetching http://www.freecovers.net/api/search/%22wildhoney%22%20%22Tiamat%22

Seems like something with the URL and/or the Api changed...

Using google the output is as follows (with -debug option, otherwise none):
fetchcover : loading http://images.google.com/images?q=%22wildhoney%22%20%22Tiamat%22&imgsz=medium|large
simple_http : fetching http://images.google.com/images?q=%22wildhoney%22%20%22Tiamat%22&imgsz=medium|large

Hope this could help...
Thanks for all Your efforts in improving gmusicbrowser!

Greetings, staubi

thanks staubi.
I think it must be because you are still using v1.0.1, v1.0.2 works fine for me with google images.
And yes searching using freecovers.net doesn't work, they must have changed something.

OH Yeah-that's it Quentin. Thanks man-i was on v1.0.1 too. With the newer version, google works too.

Right, with 1.1.4 Cover search works again :)

Do You think it's possible to fix the freecovers problem?

it seems freecovers.net's api doesn't work currently : http://forums.freecovers.net/index.php?showtopic=12824

Hi all. Just started using Gmusicbrowser and it gets better and better. I have the issue discussed in this thread though. I'm on ubuntu lucid, gmusicbrowser 1.02, and cannot make searching for covers with google work. Only slothradio works for me.

There was a recent change in the Google API that caused this.

It has been corrected by squentin in the git version that I use
