So I used to have my gmusicbrowser setup to shuffle all tracks in the whole collection. Now it is stuck on shuffling just the selected artist and sometimes it doesn't even do that. It just plays in order.
What can I do to restore shuffling all tracks randomly? I've tried everything I can think of. Must be missing some magical combination of options. I do really like this player btw. I switched to xubuntu recently and was pleased to see a lightweight easy to use player.

You need look at which play order is set, and also check if you have activated an album/artist lock. How to check that depends a bit on which layout you are using, the play order may be a menu, or an icon that display a menu when clicked. The artist/album lock icon is normally in front of the current album and artist, you can toggle it by clicking on it.
