First of all, I'd like to thank you for the work put into gmusicbrowser :)

And the question - Would the ratings I have for some songs automatically saved in files after updating to 1.1.16?

First the default is (and will be, I think) to not write ratings in the tag, you have to activate it.

Activating the option, will not write existing ratings, it only affect new ratings.
It's true it can be annoying, maybe I'll add a button to do that.

Also, setting the rating of songs to the same value they already have in gmusicbrowser, will not write the rating in the tag, you have to set them to a different rating.

Thank's for the answer :)

Love gmusicbrowser! However, I would also like to write to a custom "Rating" tag. I don't see a way to enable this in 1.1.6. How do I change this to write the rating into the tag with this new version? I was previously using foobar, but I would like to have a universal ratings system since multiple OS's need to access the files.

Thanks!
J

You can activate it in the preferences dialog, fields tab, select the rating field in "standards fields".
It uses the recent standard FMPS : http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/free-media-player-specs
http://gitorious.org/xdg-specs/xdg-specs/blobs/master/specifications/FMPSpecs/specification.txt

I don't know if foobar support this yet, but many linux players should support it ("Amarok, Ampache, Banshee, Quod Libet, Songbird, VideoLAN, XMMS2, and Youki have at some point all pledged support." [1])

note that if you activate this, it will try to read "rating" tags that I think foobar uses, and will delete them when writing a new rating. I'm not so sure it such a good idea actually, maybe I should remove it.

Hello,

I want say thanks to you for my favourite music player and ask you, if it would be possible to automatically write all existed ratings to the file tags.

I have a large collection and it would be annoying to put all ratings manually.

For now, I have fears that after moving the songs to other folders or rename them or open them on an other computer the ratings will be lost or they can not be used then.

So please add something like a button, which just write all tags to the file (of course only those, chosen as "write to file tag").

Would be nice. Thanks.
