French / Pb mémorisation et avance rapide
« Last post by spearit on April 03, 2017, 19:32:46 »
Hello,

Suggestions / 'Distributed random' shuffle
« Last post by 3x5 on March 20, 2017, 19:04:16 »
Here's an idea that I got when playing with the 'weighted random' feature: Would it be possible to shuffle a playlist in a distributed way? Meaning, it would try to play every artist once before it played any artist again. So let's say you had a bunch of artists with one song each, and one artist with 8 songs. The playlist would try to play 8 different artists before it played the one with 8 songs, so the recurrence would be distributed across the playlist.

The idea is that you're always getting variety, like on the radio where they (hopefully) wouldn't play the same artist twice in a row, or twice within a 20 minute period, et cetera.

Suggestions / 'Album length' and 'Tracks per album' as filter criteria
« Last post by 3x5 on March 20, 2017, 19:02:16 »
Before using gmusicbrowser, I was using Clementine, which uses SQLite. I wrote a few queries that would help me create playlists based on length and number of tracks. This way, I can have a playlist of all albums with 10 or more songs on them, 'EPs' (5-7 tracks), 'Singles' (1-2 tracks), and I also have lists of albums that are over an hour, under 45 minutes, et cetera.

When clementine scans your library, it keeps the track lengths in the db. I assume gmusicbrowser does as well, because it can quickly calculate the total runtime. What do you think about adding 'album length' and 'tracks per album' as filter criteria?

I know sometimes the track number field is written as 4/12, where '12' is the total number of tracks. If this were in use, it would also be possible to filter complete vs. incomplete albums. I'm sure we all have collections where we only like, and keep a few tracks of an album, but have other albums that are complete from start to finish.

Suggestions / Multiple genres per track is great; what about multiple albums?
« Last post by 3x5 on March 20, 2017, 18:54:47 »
I'm sure we all have some songs in our collections that appear on an LP, but then it's also the B-side to a single, or it's on a compilation, or a soundtrack. Sometimes, you might want to listen to it in the context of the LP, and sometimes the soundtrack.

You could have multiple copies of the song in your library, but if the recording is identical, why not sort one track into multiple albums? Is there any way to make this work in Gmusicbrowser, the way you can select multiple genres?

Questions / Re: Hangs on quit, or segmentation fault, on Ubuntu 16.04

Hi,
I have found a workaround for the segmentation fault.

On line 1839 of gmusicbrowser.pl (gmusicbrowser-1.1.15), comment out "exit".
For example:

  exec $Options{Shutdown_cmd} if $turnoff && $Options{Shutdown_cmd};
  # exit; # <= This causes segmentation fault.

PS. I am using gmusicbrowser on Linux Mint 18.

I can confirm the same problem on 16.04.1 LTS.

BTW, has Quentin stopped development of gMusicbrowser? There hasn't been an update in over a year!

Questions / ALSA not available as a selectable output device for gstreamer 1.x
« Last post by gman2001 on January 11, 2017, 23:14:52 »
Hey Folks,

I'm trying to trouble shoot a problem I have on my Ubuntu 16.04 setup with a Schitt Modi2 DAC.  I have followed the Alsa configuration instructions located here:

http://mangel312.blogspot.ca/2014/05/bit-perfect-audio-in-ubuntu.html

The problem I run into is that in the settings under the Audio tab, Alsa is not listed in the dropdown list of output devices.  Available options are:

auto detect
JACK
openal
oss
oss4
PulseAudio

I can confirm that it works using aplay and deadbeef is able to use Alsa.

Hoping someone out there might have run into this as well and might know what is missing/wrong as I would love to use gmusicbrowser.

Thanks and best regards.

Questions / Can one save a layout 'exact;ly'?
« Last post by chrisisbd on December 24, 2016, 15:25:03 »
I'm using the 'Lists, Library and Context' layout in gmusicbrowser.  I usually minimise the bottom right pane (browse) but it always reappears when I start gmusicbrowser anew.  Is there any way to save the layout as I want it to appear when I start gmusicbrowser?

Questions / How to play all files in a folder/directory just once?
« Last post by chrisisbd on December 01, 2016, 19:36:39 »
I've been using gmusicbrowser for a a while now on my desktop machine and now I'm adding it to my laptop as well.

I have my music arranged in a deep hierarchy where folders at the bottom level correspond to albums, i.e. each folder
at the lowest level just holds the tracks making up one album.  My standard way of listening to music is to use the folder
view in gmusicbrowser, right click on the folder/album I want to listen to and select 'Play'.

The one problem is that play continues for ever repeating round and round the tracks of the album, I want it to stop after
playing the last track.  Is there any way to make gmusicbrowser do this?  It's particularly annoying with orchestral music
because starting again after the final notes is very distracting! :-)
