I was not using shimmer at the time,  I have grown fond of Lists, Library and Context.  Next, I will try to build one of my own

Canonical has had 5+ years of issues with the systray icon and transparency, I do hope these new standards will once and for all solve them..

I appreciate the response, and do not accept your apology simply because there was never a need for it... ;)

you could add it to the wiki (or ask me or quentin to do so), here's some (i guess from what i read here: deprecated) information.

I can add it myself, the only question I have is ...

Do I replace what is there due to how deprecated it is?

If not, do I start from the bottom or from the top?

Just making sure since it will be my first edit.

Questions / Search Google takes me to Germany!
January 27, 2011, 04:46:14
When I do a Search on the Web from any menu, it takes me to the German Google site.

None of the other web searches does this...

I have looked but have not found a setting for this

Appreciate the help in getting to an English Google..

Questions / Update killed tray icon transparency
January 27, 2011, 01:31:40
Through normal sudo apt-get update/upgrade, I got an update today of gmusicbrowser.

This update has made the tray icon lose it's transparency and is white...

I have read some of the past issues with this and looked for line 6360 to uncomment to see if this was the issue but since 6360 is a blank line for me in gmusicbrowser, I do not know exactly what I am looking for....

Any help is appreciated...

I do have the Cairo perl module installed.

EDIT:

I found it on line 6620 and uncommented and it worked...

Thanks~!

I appreciate the reply and the upcoming changes...

I ended up using puddletag which has the ability to swap a value for another, and have now replaced easyTag with this app due to it's speed!

Is it noted here how to keep GMB current with a git or an svn process?

Thanks!

Just as a follow up to this, I was able to get both conky scripts working to pull in both the mpris/dbus values and also a second one that will display the image at the prescribed values.

Available to anyone interested, just let me know...

I have a similar question and do not mean to hijack... :o

All of my tracks have incorrect albums based on an old style of Genre based structure I used to have..

I want to do a mass change of the Album and make it the Artist, is this possible with the tag editor, if not, would you know of a tool or script?

I have resolved it by just making sure all images are equal ratio, thank goodness for Gimp.

I have seen all of the layouts with GMB that could replace the conky, but I like the control I have with it with my script.

I did find all the docs and am currently absorbing it all

Thanks!

Questions / Cover art display and settings
January 22, 2011, 22:40:46
I am using the following and it works quite well in putting the cover on my desktop

cover.layout
[D_buttons_song_cover]
Type= D
Name= _"Cover Only"
Window =  transparent=1
DefaultFontColor= white
VBmain = 2HBAlbum -Cover(forceratio=0,maxsize=375,minsize=375)

I am trying to accomplish a single size displayed no matter the size of the image.

If I have a 500x500 image, it displays fine at 375x375, but if the image is 500x452, it does not display at 375x375 but proportionally smaller, 375x325

If the image is 250x250, it displays it correctly at 375x375

So it seems as if it only has issues wit files that are not "square"

Is there a setting that I can use to make every image the size I want it to be?

If there is any documentation on all of this, please point me to it and I will soak it all up.
Edit - I did find the docs and made the change from forceratio=0 to 1, but this has not helped

Great App!!!!  I feel like I have been wasting my time on every other product I have ever used.

Below also is a link to my screenshot using Conky and the widget

I have to ask for further info on this.. and this may be a bug..

I am playing a track now and it definitely has a cover.jpg in it's directory, but GMB is going to a completely different directory to get a different cover.jpg.  This is bizarre because there is no logic in why it is going to this specific directory which is light years and thousands of files away from the current song

This is happening in essentially all of my tracks.

Edit: I realize now in reading through some things that GMB basically takes the approach of Album to cover art and not the individual directory.  So in the scan it is finding only the Album cover art which in my case could be scattered across my Genre based directory setup...

Thanks for the explanations...

One other thing of note, GMB will find the next available image in an apparent search through the directories, if the current directory does not have an image file or embedded.

Thanks, I will try a different approach with the Conky scripts..
195
I am not sure how an mpris client would ask for a lot of pictures. Again, as far as embedded, I can give you the way it is done in the Python scripts I work with and I am sure you could easily see and use it in Perl...

Any of the other players writes it to the /tmp as cover, simply overwriting itself at each track change.

But my question is, where is it writing it to now?  If I have that location, with my scripts I can change to that location and have Conky display it.  It does not need to be /tmp, but it must be storing it somewhere?

Thanks... I do appreciate the answer - There is a lot of Conky users who look for this from a player, and I know I would use GMB exclusively once I get this to work
