Questions / Real length for VBR mp3s?
June 27, 2016, 21:27:01
Hi there!

I've been using gmusicbrowser for years and I absolutely adore it. It's so flexible and fast, a real jewel.

But I've had one problem: Many of my mp3s are listed with the wrong length (too short). They play back fully, but the timer just goes beyond the supposed total time. So this is not essential but it would be nice to have the correct length displayed, especially for playlist length and sometimes CD burning.

The concerned mp3s are VBR, many of them are single channel (mono). I converted them using avconv. I rewrote the VBR headers with vbrfix. I removed and readded them to the library and made sure to "check real length", all to no effect.

I'm using gmusicbrowser 1.1.13. I'm afraid to update because I'm afraid to lose my setup and layout, don't want to risk that. Is this an issue that has been solved in the last updates?

Thank you very much!

Hi there. :)

I am just getting to know gmusicbrowser, and it's a phantastic piece of software. I used to have a highly customized foobar2000 back in my Windows days and this is indeed a worthy replacement.

However I am having trouble displaying the "composer" tag that I use in all my mp3s. I can see it's content just fine, when I check the "song properties" of a song. However when I add a composer column to a SongList, every song reads "<unknown>".

I have already found out that columns are generated from entries in the "fields" list, but there I cannot create a composer field that actually reads my tags. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you very much!
