Questions / Re: Volume restart at every song
July 16, 2010, 21:41:40
afaik pulseaudio manages the volume per application, which would mean that once you set that in your pulseaudio-mixer it resets it to that level everytime you use the application...

in general you'll find the layouts in /usr/share/gmusicbrowser/layouts (or whatever your path to your gmusicbrowser-installation on fedora might be).

there you can look for layouts that contain the line
Type=D

you can then save your own layouts in ~/.config/gmusicbrowser/layouts/yourlayout.layout - either more in one file or all in different files, that's up to you. after a restart you should be able to select the newly added/modified desktop-widget-layout.

and to finally get to your question: i experience the same behavior and so far haven't been able to fix it, might be a bug.

Questions / Re: Playlist confusion
July 08, 2010, 09:06:10
i guess what you want is "remove from library" instead of removing the songs from a playlist. (...since gmusicbrowser handles your music rather like a library than a playlist.) to do that right-click a song -> remove -> remove from library (as opposed to: remove from list in your example).

but: if your music is in your gmusicbrowser-search-folders (see in the settings) and you click "scan" these removed songs will be added again (so e.g. if the option "search for new songs on startup" is activated removing songs from the library still wouldn't help).

Questions / Re: gmusicbrowser on Ubuntu 10.04

hi again,
really sorry for that misleading post, must've been really tired or distracted when i wrote that... i meant: change that line in /usr/bin/gmusicbrowser (that's the file you're looking for).

hey drazgo,
sorry for the late answer.
seems your using gmb from the shimmer-repository which currently decided to focus on supporting transparency for xfce/lxde-panel.
if you want transparency to work in gnome-panel just uncomment line 6360 in /usr/share/gmusicbrowser/gmusicbrowser.pl

in case you encounter other problems/bugs with the version from our ppa feel free to check in at #shimmer (on irc.freenode.net) or report the bug on launchpad (https://launchpad.net/gmb-shimmer).

Questions / Re: xine backend support

mplayer(-nogui) works pretty well for me (both movies and gmb), have you given that a try?

hey dan,
well i guess an option for unrated songs would be good.

reading your post from before again i have to say it sounds like you will work out a model that users won't have to customize (which is good imo). with my comment i was more targeting the current state of the plugin, where options have to be set by the user in order to make the plugin work with your listening-habits. that's why i thought that a function to reset the rating or recalculate it after tinkering with those options might be helpful.

Questions / Re: Slow Library scanning

@Thomas1970: you can also try our ppa: https://launchpad.net/~shimmerproject/+archive/ppa

i suggested this on irc already, but i thought i'd put it here again to keep it in mind:
i would suggest to make an action to convert the already-gathered play/skipcount to a rating. this way users wouldn't have to start from zero when starting to use your plugin. also: it would be good to not only make this a first-run option, because this way people could test different differentials etc for rating.

one more thing: the error message when libtext-csv-perl is missing could be a bit more verbose about the package that's missing.

QuoteBecause when I use the built -in function in gmb, it moves only the files, not the cover. I want to move the whole directory including the cover.
oh right, didn't think about that...

update: in xfce4-panel-4.7.1 the transparency only works with the patch for gnome-panel from git, not with the older version.
i conclude that it is bad behaviour of xfce-panel or/and lxde's panel in their older versions (or maybe standards have changed?).
162
why don't you use the built-in function in gmb to move the files?
if you do there's no need for re-scanning or checking your collection and also no problems with cover-art.

just a quick heads-up on some further testing i did:
the new version works with the *new* (not yet released) version xfce panel (4.7.1).

but as discussed on irc moving the whole thing to a plugin and making the workaround an option might still be a good idea.

Customization / Re: NextAlbum Button

nice idea of adding that functionality to the Next button, immediately got implemented in my layout :)

ps: is there something like "PrevAlbum" too?

Suggestions / Re: svg logo/s
May 05, 2010, 23:24:01
just stumbled upon this blog post by the same guy who created the two base icons for gmb, and it seems pretty promising for a trayicon in my opinion:
http://jimmac.musichall.cz/log/?p=974

might be some time until this is really really implemented, but it seems the gnome-guys are heading for this.

not sure whether gmb's logo can be "pixel perfect at 16px", as it doesn't have "as little detail as possible". on the next level the monochrome part would also be a problem i guess.
would be great if gmusicbrowser would follow these design outlines imho. but i guess that would require a logo redesign and as discussed today on #irc it's not extremely likely to happen.

let me add that i really like it if "the icons don't scream with color and don't become Times Square when few of them stay persistent on your panel". :) really nice quote
