Questions / Re: Multimedia Keys
February 20, 2012, 13:11:53
The KDE version:

System Settings -> Shortcuts and Gestures -> Custom Shortcuts. Click on Edit -> New -> Global Shortcut -> Command/URL and enter the shortcut under the Trigger tab. You'll (most likely) see a dialog warning that the key already is assigned to a global shortcut, choose Reassign. Finally write the command you want to run under Action.

dbus-send --dest=org.gmusicbrowser /org/gmusicbrowser org.gmusicbrowser.RunCommand string:PlayPause

Repeat for the other keys.

Thanks for the suggestion.

As of now, I have not the foggiest how to accomplish this in KDE.
I'll keep looking though.

Questions / Multimedia Keys

Forgive me for restarting this topic - it is marked [SOLVED]

I have read over and over the threads related to multimedia keys control in Gmusicbrowser and I could not comprehend the conversation.

Now my multimedia keys work flawlessly.
Simple instructions for others as technically challenged as me:
Using Gmusicbrowser 1.1.9 (I have no idea if this works with other versions)

1. Go to Settings
2. Click on the <Keys> tab
3. At the bottom of the dialogs are 3 fields (Key, Command, Arguments)
Position the cursor in the <Key> field.
4. Press the multimedia key to map (ex: Play/Pause)
5. The text in the <Key> field now displays: XF86AudioPlay.
6. Click on the <Command> drop down list and select <Play/Pause>
7. The <Add shortcut key> button below will become enabled
8. Click on it to add the keys to the list of keys above.

Repeat for all the keys to map.
Close and restart Gmusicbrowser and presto bravo you have multimedia keys configured.

Questions / ReĀ : Browser & Queue issue
December 27, 2011, 14:50:36
Thanks. I want to avoid plugging bits of code here and there. I did find out how to rescan the collection in the settings dialog. I'll use that.

Let me say that Gmusicbrowser is 'fun' to use. It offers so many possibilities and choices. I'm still in the process of familiarizing myself with this Awesome player.

Keep up the good work.
Questions / Browser & Queue issue

To begin Happy Holidays...kinda late.
Using the layout Browser & queue, the button 'Refresh list" does nothing. I believe in the Shimmer desktop layout it is labeled "Rescan collection".
To refresh the number of songs in the library, I have to close and restart Gmusicbrowser.

I think that 2 lines would be sufficient.

Absolutely Awesome support.

Thanks for the swift responses.
I'll try the modified Shimmer Desktop layout.
I understand the album cover situation. I have began tagging new album art as 'front cover'
Lastly, there is a difference in reading a sentence as just something that is being read, versus something that a section of code has to parse and interpret. What I have been missing is that a new layout must have the "."layout extension.
People and machines are not the same  :)

Again thanks.

Suggestions / Wrap around text fields
December 22, 2011, 17:12:23
I'd like to suggest that the text fields wrap around instead of truncating the text, when the columns are resized.
This will break the nice neat one line displays, but legibility will be improved for long titles and album names.
Questions / Stupid questions
December 22, 2011, 17:03:18
I have read the posts and for the life of me, none of the suggestions work for me.
I am using version 1.1.8. I cannot understand why Gmusicbrowser does not display [all] my album arts. The images are embedded in the tags. I understand that in a folder, Gmusicbrowser will select an image called "front cover.jpg" but most of the times "cover.jpg" is ignored.

I am using the Shimmer desktop layout and cannot find the volume control.

I have read and reread how to add new layouts, to no avail. It does not matter if they are placed in my home directory or the usr/share/gmusicbrowser/layouts folder.

I'll gladly supply any required information.

These are minor annoyances. Gmusicbrowser is the best player I have used. Besides playing music, I like the fact that it gives me a more complete view of the tags.

Thanks for any assistance.
