Title: Stupid questions
Post by: pat3tiq on December 22, 2011, 17:03:18
I have read the posts and for the life of me, none of the suggestions work for me.
I am using version 1.1.8. I cannot understand why Gmusicbrowser does not display [all] my album arts. The images are embedded in the tags. I understand that in a folder, Gmusicbrowser will select an image called "front cover.jpg" but most of the times "cover.jpg" is ignored.

I am using the Shimmer desktop layout and cannot find the volume control.

I have read and reread how to add new layouts, to no avail. It does not matter if they are placed in my home directory or the usr/share/gmusicbrowser/layouts folder.

I'll gladly supply any required information.

These are minor annoyances. Gmusicbrowser is the best player I have used. Besides playing music, I like the fact that it gives me a more complete view of the tags.

Thanks for any assistance.

There is no volume button in Shimmer Desktop.
Take the joined file, save it in ~/.config/gmusicbrowser/layouts/ and load "Shimmer Desktop Modified" in settings.
I add a Volume Button you could mouse-wheel-scroll to change volume.

But you can mouse-wheel-scroll the gmb icon in systray to change volume no matter of the layout.

Embedded pictures should work, but they have to be tagged as "front cover" (you can check that in the advanced tag editing dialog of a song), else they won't be picked automatically, I plan to add an option to also pick embedded pictures which are not tagged.
If no embedded picture is found, it will search for a picture in the common folder for all songs from the album, but only if that folder doesn't contain songs from other albums, badly tagged songs will often create problem with this rule.

placing them in ~/.config/gmusicbrowser/layouts/ with a .layout extension, should work, note that not all layouts appear in the layouts menu, check the layouts tab in the preference menu to see if a layout has been found. (only layouts with a layout menu should appear in the layout menu, so you can switch between them easily).

Hey I had the same problem. I did what you said, but there is one problem with the modified layout. It doesn't display my artists in artists tab on the left. It displays info. And there is album tab witch is empty. How to fix that?

Thanks for the swift responses.
I'll try the modified Shimmer Desktop layout.
I understand the album cover situation. I have began tagging new album art as 'front cover'
Lastly, there is a difference in reading a sentence as just something that is being read, versus something that a section of code has to parse and interpret. What I have been missing is that a new layout must have the "."layout extension.
People and machines are not the same  :)

Again thanks.

The shimmer layout hard-code a few tabs (I forgot why) such as an artist and an album tab, these need the artistinfo and albuminfo to be activated to show something.

There is a small bug in Shimmer desktop (cover button doesn't work).

Corrected in joined file (including volume button too)

Can anyone fix the tab problem for me, in the modified layout version? I'm not a programmer.

I hadn't change anything except add a volume button and correct the cover button.

Right-clic on title tab -> open panel layout -> Same artist

That's not it, I need it to show me all artists not the other albums of the one selected.

This layout doesn't plan to show all artists in left panel (neither original, nor modified).
Try another layout.

You want to say that the original shimmer layout is bugged?

What is your gmb version ?

In the 1.1.8 version there is no difference between original "shimmer desktop" layout (original : http://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1324847158.png ) and the version I joined, except one volume button and cover button (modified : http://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1324847192.png ).

May be you were using a old shimmer layout for older gmb version.

Good notice. I am using version 1.1.7. Anyway, I need the tab that will show me all artists in library. It's not that I have 10 songs, I have 5000+ songs, I need to keep all that in order, but I can't do it unless I can explore by artist. I tried other layouts, but none were good enough. Is there a way I can get what I'm looking for?

There is a lot of layouts by default (but shimmer layouts are the greastest) but you could use my latest creation : http://forum.gmusicbrowser.org/index.php?topic=526.0

Ahh ... layouts are so subjective..  ;D

Here is a link to all I have collected and created (https://www.dropbox.com/s/c0belngxigj2uj6/layouts2.tar.gz)

Get this file and extract it to

/home/your user name/.config/gmusicbrowser/layouts

Once you have done this and restart GMB, you will have a mass amount of new layouts to choose from as well as new widget layouts

Merry Christmas all
